Intercom Systems

Intercom systems are important because they provide a secure and controlled way to manage access to a building or property. By allowing staff to communicate with and verify visitors before granting entry, they help prevent unauthorised access and improve overall site security. Intercom systems also increase operational efficiency by enabling remote gate or door control from inside the building, reducing the need for staff to physically attend entry points. When integrated with access control and CCTV systems, intercoms contribute to a comprehensive security solution by supporting visitor verification, monitoring entry activity, and maintaining records of access events.

What's Involved

An intercom system provides communication between an external entry point, such as a gate or door, and personnel inside a building, forming part of a broader access control and security infrastructure. A typical system includes an entry station with a microphone, speaker, call button, and often a camera, connected to an internal receiving station located in a reception area, office, or security room. This allows staff to communicate with visitors, verify their identity, and remotely grant access when required. Modern intercom systems are often IP-based and connected through the building network, allowing integration with gate motors, electric door locks, access control systems such as card readers or keypads, and CCTV systems. This integration enables controlled entry, remote door or gate release, and monitoring or recording of entry events as part of the overall security system.
